Bryan McCarty

Tell us your brief bio/running history…

I started running in high school—cross country and track. I was never the best runner, but I immediately fell in love and kept running throughout high school, college and beyond. In college I ran my first marathon. I didn't properly prepare and could barely walk the next few days...but I was hooked and caught the marathon bug. Since then, I've ran 12 more... all in different states. A life goal is to run a marathon in every state. Over the past few years I've been trying to lessen all the pounding on pavement by exploring dirt—I think I've found my new love with singletrack trail running!

What running groups/communities are you involved with?

Since moving to Minneapolis three years ago, I quickly found my go-to local specialty running store, Mill City Running. Whether it's the Friday Flap Jack or the assisted weekend long run, I've enjoyed becoming part of the Mill City Running community.

What is your favorite running experience?

Running my first 50k at The North Face Endurance Series, held in the Kettle Moraine State Forest (Wisconsin). Running in that scenery was beautiful, inspiring and challenging—everything you want in a good trail race!

What events are you running/racing in 2016? What are your goals?

Twin Cities Marathon - sub-3:30, let's go!

What do you talk about when you talk about running?

The culture of trail running and how great it is—certainly a different mentality than road races, and I love it!

Favorite Fitsok sock and why?

ISW Isolwool® No-Show - those suckers are tough as nails and give me the perfect mix of cushion and moisture wick. It's the only sock I run in.
