Mekeyah Lashae - Fitsok Ambassador

Mekeyah Lashae

Tell us your brief bio/running history:

Running became a huge part of my lifestyle when I went to college in 2011. My mom encouraged me to do it as a way to relieve stress and to stay active in a new environment.

What running groups/communities are you involved with?

Since recently moving to Minnesota, I have not had the opportunity to join any running groups, but I often run as a representative for various organizations in the Twin Cities. I normally volunteer to run for organizations that are globally minded or support causes that bring growth to under-represented communities. One of my favorite organizations to run for is Venture Expeditions because they host running and biking events to raise funds that provide food for children in developing countries.

What is your favorite running experience?

My favorite running experience occurred in 2012 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. My mom and I ran in the Color Run's 5K that year to raise money for an organization called Habitat for Humanity. By that time, I had been running consistently for a little less than a year. It was my very first "race" and my mom did everything she could to make sure that I had blast! That memory serves as a reminder for me to never take my performance too seriously and to always have fun while I run.

What events are you running/racing in 2016? What are your goals?

My goal this year is to run my very first half marathon.

What is your favorite book or author?

My favorite book is War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.

Favorite Fitsok sock and why?

The CF2 Jewelpop because they keep my feet fresh after a long run!

Major running accomplishments:

Running over 80 miles during the month of February and raising enough funds to provide 3,050 meals for refugees in Southeast Asia.

What was the last rule you broke?

Staying out past curfew and then sneaking back onto campus, without checking in with security.

What is your desert island shoe?

Who needs shoes on a desert island?

What's your coffee order?

Americano.

What’s the number one race on your bucket list?

The Nike Women's Victory Tour in London.

What is your favorite distance to race?

10K.

Anything else we (and the world) should know about you?

In May, I became a graduate of North Central University and four months after that, I married my college sweetheart. Without whom, many of my proudest running moments would not be possible. My faith, family, and friends are my world.
